IGLUS established its first smart city lab in Gujarat, India, in partnership with Gujarat International Finance Tec-City (GIFT) and Nirma University. Officially called IGLUS Center of Excellence (ICE), the lab will facilitate the knowledge transfer between partners and also with other smart city initiatives around the world. Organizing joint conferences, workshops, regional training programs and providing smart city consultancy services are also among the objectives.

Inauguration took place on 27.01.2020 at GIFT City, where the lab is located, with the participation of MD & Group CEO GIFT City Mr. Shri Tapan Ray, IGLUS Program Director Prof. Matthias Finger, Director General Nirma University Prof. Anup K Singh, Vice President GIFT City Mr. Neeraj Tyagi and Director & Dean IAP Nirma University Prof. Utpal Sharma. A greenfield development, GIFT City is India’s first operational smart city and international financial services center. Nirma University was established in 2003 and now it has seven institutes that operate undergraduate, postgraduate and doctoral level programs. Inauguration of ICE was followed by a conference on ‘Planning for Sustainable and Smart Cities in India’ at Nirma University.
