Public Health and COVID-19 in Cities

2020 has been one of the most difficult years for us, with the rapid and unfortunate spread of COVID-19. Cities that already experienced previous pandemics / epidemics, such as MERS and SARS, were already aware of the importance of public health, and have managed the current pandemic with less severe outcomes, while it has had more tragic results for cities and countries with weaker public health systems and a lack of treatment facilities.

As IGLUS, we are aware of the importance of public health systemfor cities in dealing with this pandemic. Therefore, through this IGLUS Quarterly issue, we would like to touch upon the spread of COVID-19, successes and failures of public health systems in cities. We sincerely hope that you will obtain further understanding about the role of public health systems to fight against pandemics.

If you feel that there are innovative practices underway in your city/ region and you would like to contribute to an upcoming edition of IGLUS Quarterly, we encourage you to contact us at umut.tuncer@iglus.org.
